How Long Will It Take to Get My Samples Tested?

When you submit a test request, Finnrick provides a turnaround estimate based on how fast we've recently processed similar samples. This article explains how our turnaround forecasts work, what affects testing speed, and what to expect at each stage.

You can check the current status of your orders at any time at finnrick.com/account/shipments.

How we calculate turnaround time

Turnaround time is calculated per sample, not per shipment. If your shipment contains multiple samples, each one may have a different estimate depending on the type of analysis required.

The forecast is based on recently completed tests for similar samples at the same lab. We express it as a range, telling you how fast we've been processing similar samples recently. You can view current turnaround performance on our status page.

Important: The turnaround clock starts from when Finnrick processes your sample β€” not from when you ship it, and not from when the carrier marks it as delivered. There may be a delay of a couple of days between carrier delivery and Finnrick processing, depending on our intake schedule. Learn more about how we update your shipment status.

Stages of your order

1. At the time of ordering

When you place your order, we show you a turnaround forecast based on current lab performance for the type of test you selected. This is an indication only: it tells you how fast similar samples have been processed recently.

2. Shipment received and processed by Finnrick

Once we receive and process your shipment at the Finnrick office, the turnaround count begins. Your order status will update to "received" and you can track elapsed days in your shipments dashboard.

3. Prioritization and lab dispatch

We prioritize paid orders. Free sample tests may be held at the Finnrick office for a few days to allow us to manage testing volume and batch shipments to the lab efficiently. Paid submissions move through the queue first.

4. At the lab

Once your sample is sent to one of our partner laboratories, it is out of our hands until we receive the results back. Lab processing time depends on the type of analysis, current lab capacity, and whether the lab encounters any issues with the sample.

5. Results delivered

As soon as we receive results back from the lab, we send you an email notification. Results are typically available in your account within minutes of us receiving them.

What can affect turnaround speed

  • Type of test: Additional analyses (heavy metals, endotoxin, residual solvents) may take longer than standard identity/purity testing.

  • Lab capacity: During high-volume periods, labs may take longer to process samples.

  • Free vs. paid: Paid orders are prioritized. Free tests may experience additional delays during busy periods.

  • Processing lag: There may be a short delay between carrier delivery and Finnrick processing your shipment. More details here.

Turnaround times are not guaranteed

Turnaround forecasts are estimates based on recent performance, but they are not guaranteed delivery dates. Our Terms of Service state that turnaround times depend on laboratory partner capacity and may be longer during periods of high volume or supply delays. We will notify you by email if your order is significantly delayed.

Per our Refund Policy, delays in turnaround do not entitle you to a refund. All sales are final once payment is captured, because laboratory costs are incurred at that point. If you have concerns about a delay, please contact us at hello@finnrick.com.
